Regarding cities as the solution, the price of gas nowadays might actually make living in the city a little more attractive for some people. Out here on the Left Coast, there are folks who have 80-100 miles round trip commutes everyday who are certainly, provided they haven't found alternate transportation, are feeling the pain.
