Remembering Niot on SoJo

The death of my younger son, Niot, has been a heavy blow to me and my family. As we approach the end of the 30-day mourning period, I have created pages in Hebrew and English containing a short biography of Niot as well as instructions about how to contribute to the two projects we are in the process of setting up in his memory—one to help soldiers without families in the Golani Brigade and another to help learning-disabled students.

You’ll also find links to the eulogies said at his funeral, in the original Hebrew and in English translation, as well as a page of photographs.

Later this week I’ll post my latest “Necessary Stories” column, which I devoted to Niot, and further material will follow.

Thanks to all the readers who sent their condolences to me and the family. We have been strengthened in this difficult time by the amazing support we have received from family, friends, our community, Kehilat Yedidya, and the IDF.

And special thanks to Jeff Green for translating the eulogies and to David Abitbol, SoJo’s tech wizard, for helping set up the memorial pages.

  1. Haim and family: I know about all of you through Nancy. I was devastated to hear the news. You and your family are in my thoughts every day. The programs for lone soldiers and students with learning disabilities seem such fitting ways to remember Niot. My best wishes.
